Clark - Truncation Horn
Turning Dragon is out now on Warp Records.
"Truncation Horn" is a hell of a two word summary for this track. It sounds like someone's squelched the audio from a jazzercize VHS through a meat grinder and recorded the result. The drums crackle, and the stringwork - whatever portion you're able to pull out - seems struck by a wrench rather than strummed.
Peter Morén - Social Competence
The Last Tycoon will be out April 8th on Touch & Go Records.
Peter Morén, the leading third of the omnipresent Peter, Bjorn and John, came out with his solo effort this month. It's cleaner, crisper, less gallivanting - but not without its own charm and pleasure. Check out "Social Competence," a deceptively layered little ditty with a grandiose finish.

Pop-Up will be released April 1st.
In a way, foreign pop music is a blessing because it releases us simpleton American critics (read: me) from the burden of having to say something really insightful. My four years of French dumped out a trapdoor in the back of my head, so all I understand on this track is the handclaps and the club-ready synths and the "you go girl!" attitude. Thank God.
Featured Video: Kaki King - Pull Me Out Alive
"Pull Me Out Alive" is the first single from Kaki King's new album, Dreaming Of Revenge, out now.
The video was made without film cameras - it consists of over 5,000 still photographs shot on Nikon D30s. There are no special effects; all of the light trails were created by hand, with up to eight individual "light animators" flashing LEDs and flashlights on and off over a long (8 second) shot exposure.
