betterPropaganda Favorite Music Videos of 2009
Illustration proved to be a big hit in video this year. Many cover the spectrum of animation including techniques like stop motion, claymation, and computer graphics. Be sure to check out Passion Pit's "The Reeling" and Fleet Foxes' "Mykonos." 2009 also brought many beautifully shot high definition land and cityscapes. Captivating cinematography, amazing lighting and art direction are featured in this selection - view Beirut's "Concubine" or "If I Know You" from The Presets.

The Swell Season at the Paramount
When Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, collectively known as The Swell Season, took to the stage, it was impossibly cute: the two sat on their knees, he with a pom-pom beanie on his head and she with a Casio keyboard on her lap. It was a most intimate, warm and inviting way to start what would become one of the most open and interactive shows I have seen in a long time. The incomparable venue, the diversity of the audience, and the blow-you-away talent of the musicians made for a show that felt like a special, one-of-a-kind experience rather than just another stop on a whirlwind world tour.

Fingertips Explores the Archives: Miho Hatori - Barracuda
Born in Tokyo, transplanted to Manhattan in the '90s, Miho Hatori became known later in the decade as the singer in the experimental duo Cibo Matto, which combined facets of trip-hop, rock, and Latin music in a vibrant multicultural mélange. On her first (and, so far, only) solo CD, Ecdysis, she emerged as a frisky-quirky eccentrically accented 21st-century musician with maybe even more trans-global chops than the reigning queen of frisky-quirky eccentrically accented 21st-century musicianhood (who remains, of course, Björk).
