Song of the Day 6/2/08: Booka Shade - The Sun & The Neon Light
Some tracks are inherently visual in that they trigger strong, sequenced scenes inside the listener's mind (you've created a mental music video before, haven't you?). "The Sun and the Neon Light" from Booka Shade is certainly one of the weirder tracks to fire that cross-sensory synapse for me. It triggers hazy flashes of an underground descent, maybe into an Egyptian tomb or an abandoned subterranean transit system. As you go deeper, you only become more enveloped in darkness, the sphere of a handheld lantern meekly shrinking into itself. You can slap the word "epic" on this one, but not before you pair it with the word "intricate" - it's an eerie, churning track.
