Song of the Day 4/16/08: Wolf Parade - Call it a Ritual
After Apologies to the Queen Mary, Wolf Parade split into a barrage of side projects - which would be a sin for most breakout groups after a near-immaculate debut, except these particular side projects were so damn good. Well, Wolf Parade is back, clutching their scope of self-propagated influences like a bouquet of ravaged flowers. Some of what's crunched in between the marching piano line: Spencer Krug's ability to present an eerie, far-off dialect (which he mastered in Sunset Rubdown), as well as Dan Boeckner's tilt toward reverb-swamped vocals, a darkness he pinned down in Handsome Furs. This time - in stark contrast to Apologies - the guys aren't taking turns. It all comes together in a sort of Marxist unity on "Call it a Ritual."
The as-of-yet untitled album comes out 6/17 on Sub Pop.
