Prince Po: The Slickness
It’s a serious who’s who of upcoming talent that's helping out on this one. Let's see : the always smooth Danger Mouse, Anticon madman Jel, UK producer Richard X, J-zone, dusty beatsmith Madlib, MF Doom, Raekwon, and Jemini. And although this practice of getting multiple guests for your album seems to have become the norm, and sometimes results in a mushy product of mismatched lyrical styles and beats, The Slickness holds together for one reason: talent.
The songs are short, yet catchy and get the listener going with their thick bass, intelligent beats and funky soul samples. The lyrical content is top-notch too, going from the deep, introspectiveness of "Social Distortion" to the whimsical wordplay of "Bump Bump".
This is a true collaborative effort here and no one artist tries or manages to outshine Po. The album remains even and is perfectly sequenced, guaranteeing many repeated listenings. Plus, they sound like they're having fun. That is why we're all here, right?
