Mekons: Work All Week

Mekons
"Work All Week"

Mekons have a history. They have tattoos older than your first car, older than your virginity was when you misplaced it. Beginning in Leeds, England, in 1976, the band has existed in various incarnations and stylistic changes right up until the present day. Yet, close to thirty years can take a toll and only Jon Langford and Tom Greenhalgh remain from the original line-up.

The band's most recent effort is 'Punk Rock' released earlier this year on Quarterstick Records. It shows many sides of the band, including 'Work All Week' with it's sweet country/reggae lilt. A definite flavour here - a la Joe Strummer's more sedate work with The Clash. Mekons were a band back in the heart of the UK's punk era and were a part of it, but it's allure wore off. Not completely mind you, witness the new album title for one thing - and now try to imagine this song punked up and spit in the face of the establishment... not too difficult... is it.
