Iron & Wine: Naked As We Came
"Naked As We Came"
Hushed and feathered, his mouth close, right up against the speaker. You can nearly feel his breath warm with melody singing just for you. Singing songs to listen to when comfortable and alone or when you need to feel comforted and alone. Sounding like he's doing it just for you and only you, this is very intimate sounding stuff - sounding the way I imagine many hear Nick Drake, or bedroom troubadour Gravenhurst, in their own cloistered inner ear. Spinning whispery secrets out of vibrating steel and feathered breath.
Iron & Wine is Sam Beam, a resident of Miami - a one-man project begun when a four-track recorder fell into his hands. Now working digitally, since he wore out the four-track, Beam released his latest album, early this spring. Titled Our Endless Numbered Days, it is the second release for the man who strums inner thoughts straight to your inner ear.
Quiet and whispery, 'Naked As We Came' will come back like a recurring dream of sun and wine. There is no iron in Iron & Wine... and that's a good thing.Alan Williamson
