Song of the Day 5/20/09: Sally Shapiro - Miracle
With the appearance and success of sultry songstresses like Lykke Li, Robyn, Karin Dreijer Andersson (of the Knife and her new project Fever Ray) and one Miss Sally Shapiro, Swedish females are slowly taking over the musical world. Really, is anyone complaining about that? Sally Shapiro, is actually two people moonlighting as one, as she is joined by producer and writer Johan Agebjörn. "Miracle" is Shapiro's first track following the debut album, Disco Romance. Shapiro's vocals are sweeping and dreamy, which sees the greatest success when placed over a matching mid-tempo electronic backdrop, as is the case on "Miracle". It's no wonder that not one, but two albums of remixes followed the release of Disco Romance, appropriately titled Remix Romance Volumes 1 & 2. Shapiro's tracks are romantic, and while maybe not as upbeat as some may hope for, I find it a welcoming change from the electro-dance craze. After all, sometimes you just need a moody piece of romantic music to get swept up in when the occasion calls for it. Wouldn't you agree? I think Sally Shapiro does.
