Song of the Day 4/3/09: Deastro - Parallelogram
Oh Ghostly, why must you turn me into such a little fan girl? My latest musical crush is 22-year-old Randolph Chabot, aka Deastro—which makes me feel like a bit of a cradle robbing pervert, even if it’s just his latest single “Parallelogram” that has me weak in the knees. Chabot started recording music at the age of 17, experimenting with any instruments he could get his hands on. He has recorded three albums full of self-recorded material, but his forthcoming Ghostly International record, Moondagger, is his first live-band recording. Chabot has been captivating audiences in his Michigan area hometown through his energetic live show, and following performances at this year’s South by Southwest festival. With the release of Moondagger on June 23, Deastro’s following will only grow. If you’ve never heard Deastro, then “Parallelogram” is the most beautiful introduction. The song’s sweeping fantasy-like synth-harmonies will win over you pretty-shoegazey-electronic music fans right off the bat, and when the vocals kick in, you indie-pop fans will be on board in no time. While “Parallelogram” is still satisfying after repeated (and repeated) listens, June 23 needs to get here as quickly as possible or my harmless crush will quickly turn into stalker-”give me new Deastro songs NOW”-kind of behavior.
