Song of the Day 2/12/09: Woodhands - Electric Ave
Oh, man - I love me a song that sounds like an accident. Woodhands sounds like a group of organically gathered young folk gathered in a cramped room, far enough down their sipping whiskey to say, "aw, shit, well why don't we come up with some words and yell them into a voice recorder and see what happens?" Of course, there's proof that "Electric Ave" is far enough past that improvisational riff on, say, Architecture in Helsinki's silly yelps or Port O'Brien's "ok, chant now!" approach to vocal delivery. Whipped electronics careen through the halls of this track, production tightens up around the drums for some suave breaks, and so on - but enough of "Electric Ave" is unhinged to give this track the feeling that someone took a one-night-stand of a music project further and further until it turned into something real. It's fresh, wild and full of natural energy, and it'll sprint through your head faster than they can gallop down Electric Avenue.
