BioMike Chappelear, singer-songwriter, artist. He is undoubtedly one of the best folk artists today. His voice is strong, unique. And his songs are catchy –catchy to the point of infectious. The son of an accomplished jazz bassist and a classical pianist, Mike took the guitar his father gave him for high school graduation to Berea College in eastern Kentucky. He had written songs for a campus band, but it was not until a break up two weeks before a would be wedding that Mike began to write very personal folk ballads. A local coffee shop became the perfect outlet for Mike's creative efforts. It was then that something surfaced that made heads turn-his voice. Mike's voice is unique. Soothing and strong yet passionate, his voice expresses a poignant sincerity similar to that of Lucinda Williams, Ryan Adams, and Bob Dylan. Les Taylor, former EXILE lead singer and writer of "Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda," hosted a singer-songwriter night at Friend's and Co. restaurant in Lexington, KY. Mike was one of the singer-songwriters featured that night. Les was so impressed by Mike's songs and voice that he said, "That's what we in the business call ‘pipes'.
