Haiku: A Japanese lyric form having 3 unrhymed lines of 5, 7 and 5 syllables, traditionally invoking an aspect of nature or the seasons.

Coup D'etat: A sudden overthrow or takeover of a governing body or authority.

Haiku D'etat: A rap group comprised of 3 artists -Aceyalone & Mikah 9 from the Freestyle Fellowship, and Abstract Rude of Abstract Tribe Unique (ATU).

The History: Freestyle Fellowship is considered to be one of hip hop's most influential groups, and their first two albums, To Whom It May Concern and Inner City Griots are classic records from hip hop's golden era.

It's been 5 years since the first Haiku D'Etat release, a self titled debut. The debut was affectionately embraced for its jazzy, soulful mix of live musical elements and bold, socio-conscious lyrics that came to define the meaning of the group's name - a poetry takeover!

Since that time all 3 members of Haiku D'etat have been tending to their thriving solo careers, keeping busy both on the road and in the studio. Aceyalone has been working to develop his label Project Blowed in a partnership with Decon and has been writing for a new solo record due in May 2005. Abstract Rude & Tribe Unique globetrot year round promoting their independent projects (including their 2003 release Showtyme on Battleaxe Records.) Mikah 9 also stays active doing shows and recording with various producers, most notably his newest album Gramophone, due to drop later this year.
