Bio
Aceyalone first stepped into the limelight in the early 90’s as one of the key figures in the legendary Los Angeles group the Freestyle Fellowship. Over the course of four albums, the Fellowship helped redefine West Coast hip hop. Defining albums such as To Whom It may Concern or Innercity Griots introduced Aceyalone as a thought-provoking, conceptual and outgoing MC.In 1995, Aceyalone launched a successful solo career. With timeless albums such as All Balls Don't Bounce, Accepted Eclectic and the unique A Book Of Human Language Acey gained the respect of music fans and critics alike, proving himself to be one of the finest rappers of his time.
This attention provided the stepping-stone for what is perhaps his proudest achievement so far: Project Blowed. Back in LA, hot on the heels of successful bands such as Freestyle Fellowship, Pharcyde or Jurassic 5, a new generation was coming to maturity. With the help of fellow A-Team member Abstract Rude, Aceyalone helped launch the revolution. In 1994, he moved the legendary open mic nights of the Good Life to a new location, Ben Caldwell’s Kaos Network a community film and arts workshop located in Leimert Park: Project Blowed was born. Still going strong after more than 10 years, the party has become a staple of hip hop lyricism, bringing together emcees of all horizons: C.V.E, Ellay Khule, Busdriver, Pigeon John emulated each other and launched their careers at the Blowed.
More than an open mic, Project Blowed has spawned a record label, which Acey set up in 1994 to document this burgeoning scene. As a label and a meeting place, Project Blowed, alongside labels such as Stone’s Throw or Quannum has reaffirmed the prevalence of a West Coast brand of hip hop, whose sound has spread all over America and in the many corners of the world, from Europe to Australia. In 2003, Project Blowed stepped it up even further when it partnered with multi media firm Decon, which markets the records worldwide and give them an acclaimed visual identity.
Rapper, nurturer, label head, Aceyalone is all that, and so much more. His thriving partnership with RJD2 on his new album Magnificent City will likely turn many ears in 2006. Acey is also busy with the launch of a community based projectblowed.com, to continue exposing the fresh new talents coming out of the West Coast hip hop scene.
