BioFrom all the way in the back of the food stamp line, and straight outta rehab...
Alternative Tentacles Records, the 25-year-old bastion of punk and radical thought, joins forces with New York political squatter punks Leftover Crack on their third full-length Fuck World Trade (Virus 320) with a scheduled street date of August 31, 2004 (released in the U.K. and Ireland by our friends at Household Name Records.) Their first two releases (one released under the monicker Choking Victim) on Hellcat Records garnered them notoriety for their outspoken politcal views using the vehicle of catchy-as-heck ska punk to open the eyes of impressionable youth worldwide.
Produced by Steve Albini, Fuck World Trade features thirteen tracks of Leftover Crack's best songwriting effort to date. Fueled by anger and frustration toward the neverending "war on terrorism", the lyrics are primal and scathing, and the music adds hardcore and even some surprising metal influences to the ska punk backbone. The band's knack for folding various genres into their already successful sound makes them appealing to everyone from fans of straight-up ska punk such as Against All Authority and Operation Ivy as well as fans of New York hardcore such as Nausea and Sick of It All. "Fuck World Trade" also boasts a guest appearance by Gern Blandsten recording artist World/Inferno Friendship Society.
"Ever since I first heard punk music, I knew that A.T. was the label I wanted to be on," says lead singer Stza Crack. "In recent years [we]'ve had so much trouble with the censorship of our art and ideas that [Alternative Tentacles] seemed like the only label with any spine at all to give me a platform for my 'extreme' political views." Radical politics and outspokenness is nothing new to Alternative Tentacles and its owner Jello Biafra, spoken word artist and former singer of the legendary Dead Kennedys. In its 25 year existence, the label has fought censorship head-on, including the first American court case in which contents of a popular music album was put on trial.
Alternative Tentacles has challenged the mainstream herd mentality by spotlighting such classic - and unclassifiable - artists such as Jello Biafra, Butthole Surfers, Crucifucks, MDC, Wesley Willis, etc. as well as the world's leading thinkers and activists such as Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Arundhati Roy, and Greg Palast. Leftover Crack joins a current active roster of envelope-pushers including Fleshies, the Phantom Limbs, Pansy Division, etc. proving once again that Alternative Tentacles is a force to be reckoned with in America's underground music scene as well as the grassroots political movements by the young and the old fueled by the indomitable spirit of punk.
Leftover Crack plans to tour the U.S. as well as Europe in support of Fuck World Trade near its release date of August 31, 2004.
