Hieroglyphics is a deeply loved and respected hip-hop crew in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's part family and part supergroup, with individual members including Del the Funky Homosapien, Casual, Pep Love, Souls of Mischief, Domino and more. Some of the members had some national prominence working with major labels, including Elektra and Jive, in the early 90s but then they collectively came together as Hiero Imperium, their own independent Oakland record label in 1997, and thereafter released their group debut Third Eye Vision.

Musically the group is hard to pin down. Some of its orchestrations can be stunningly musical compared to other hip hop acts. They can be soulful, spiritual, silly, sci-fi, political and more. One clear unifying thread is a strong artistic sensibility; a number of its crew are visual artists as well. The band's graphic design, posters, website and t-shirts are highly appreciable and its three-eyed logo is absolutely classic.

They collectively champion innovation, independence and the underground, and have a large body of work to back it up. "Keep your third eye open!" is a group motto.
