Bio
In the early 90s, Wax Tailor was involved as a rapper, composer, producer and manager in the group ‘La Formule Band’. At this time, the Frenchman presented a hip hop show in a Parisian radio station. In 1998, he created the ‘Lab'oratoire’ label in order to produce different projects including La Formule as well as the series of ‘Breaking the wave’ Breakbeat and the Breathing Under Water project with Swedish Band LoopTroop. From then on, things took off. La Formule Band performed at several festivals such as Logik Hip Hop in Marseille, Energ’hip hop in Nantes and at many radio shows... In 2001, Wax started the Breathing Under Water project. In 2002, a first EP was released with LoopTroop. At the same time, he started producing the Wax Tailor project. 2005 should be a very good year for Wax Tailor. Following his two successful EPs ‘Lost the Way’ and ‘Que sera / Where my heart’s at’, Wax Tailor now delivers a much awaited first album, described as a ‘cinematic hip-hop’ experience. In his music Wax Tailor indeed uses samples as film directors use actors. He was as much influenced by musicians (Doris Day, Nina Simone...) as movie directors he admires including Stanley Kubrick, Woody Allen or Alfred Hitchcock. The record includes several appearances, those of the U.S. hip-hop band of The Others, Charlotte Savary from the French band Clover, etc. Acting as a perfect wax tailor, Wax Taylor delivers a first album that plays with our collective memory. He offers us the soundtrack of a movie that every one of us can watch in our own way.
